Two years after its relaunch, the Shelter brand confirms its shift towards being an innovative eyewear designer, strongly inspired by architecture.”

Proof of this is the first « RENCONTRE » between Shelter and designer Patrick Norguet. A close collaboration that led to the creation of 10 frames, with complex structures and assemblies. An innovative work that for the first time fuses two noble materials: wood and acetate.

This shift takes place within a very specific context: backed by its long-time partner, Marotte (France’s leading wood panel manufacturer), Shelter benefits, indirectly, from a comprehensive network of internationally recognized designers and architects, which the brand intends to leverage to expand its offerings.

From now on, each year, Shelter will combine its expertise with various talents in the form of « RENCONTRE » and invite designers, architects, etc., to imagine the frames of tomorrow.

It’s a work of architecture. It’s a walk through an architectural maze, between lines and curves, between void and fullness, between concave and convex shapes, between shadow and light, between bridge and temples, between vibrant and soft colors. It’s a fusion of raw and noble materials: bio-acetate, wood, and metal.
It’s the opposites, placed in contrasting situations, that establish a dialogue.
This new masterful collection is a re-immersion into our roots: a fusion between the love of noble materials, architectural inspiration from the world, and innovation.

When it came to imagining this collection, the name of Patrick Norguet became an obvious choice. His previous collaborations with Marotte (Shelter’s historic veneer supplier and main partner), his bold style, and his free approach to design have always been successful.

With him, wood, combined with acetate, takes on a new dimension. Twisted with a touch of 70s madness, this blend gives the collection a contemporary and cosmopolitan feel.

At the forefront of high-end eyewear, every detail has been meticulously thought out..

As a builder, Patrick Norguet has designed 10 frames inspired by architectures from around the world, with complex structures and assemblies: Paris, London, Stockholm, Vegas…

With this new collection, Patrick Norguet and Shelter bring frames that embody precision and modernity, standing the test of time.

WHO IS PATRICK NORGUET ?

Close to both the worlds of fashion and industrial and interior design, Patrick Norguet combines his deep knowledge of materials and processes with a search for intuition and emotion.

He approaches objects through drawing. As a child, he preferred sketchbooks to textbooks. Originally from Tours, he studied in Paris at the École supérieure de design industriel. In 2000, he founded his design studio, which spans activities from industrial product creation to architectural projects.

A free spirit of French design, he developed an approach based on eclecticism, creating objects marked by a relentless search for balance and rationalism, giving a unique character to each of his projects, while always considering the relationship between an object and its surrounding space.

Spotted by Giulio Cappellini in 2000 for his now-famous Rainbow Chair (which entered the permanent collections of MoMA in NYC, the Museum of Modern Art in Miami, and the Philadelphia Art Museum), he became part of the circle of influential designers.

His work has been awarded numerous prizes.

THE FUSION COLLECTION, SEEN BY PATRICK NORGUET

«As with all my projects, this new collaboration began with a meeting: that of a designer and a brand.

My work is primarily about understanding the brand’s universe: the world of eyewear, optical, and sunglasses. I worked both on functionality and comfort, but also on the fashion object, as glasses are an accessory, a style, a social attitude. I therefore approached this project with expertise to highlight its uniqueness.

Starting with the DNA, primarily based on the use of wood as the main material, I wanted to enrich and design a collection incorporating new materials that add value to the object through assembly principles, color play, transparency, depth, and contrast.

For me, glasses are a small piece of architecture, a constructed and designed object, an ergonomic item that should enhance and elevate a face, convey an expression; it is a filter, a gaze, a set of elements that accentuate personality. As such, I ensured balance between a handcrafted approach and optimizing the quality and value of the object.

Between fashion and timelessness, I conducted a thorough search for elegance through significantly anachronistic statements.

Refined, powerful, and crafted with precision, this collection comes in a range of rich materials and bold geometric shapes.»
