Our Commitment

The brand’s soul: its commitment

Born in a woodworking workshop in Annecy, nestled between lake and mountains, and committed to prioritizing Made in France and environmental respect, Shelter proudly stands by its values. Because we firmly believe every action must have meaning, we continuously raise our standards alongside our partners regarding respect for the environment and people. We are dedicated to responsible creation. What is said is done, and what is done is shared.

French Production

Because we are convinced that the eyewear craftsmanship of Ain and Jura is a unique heritage, we are committed to highlighting its artisans.

That is why Shelter proudly claims handcrafted French manufacturing.

With skill, these passionate men and women shape and bring our glasses to life.

A blend of high technology and craftsmanship that gives importance to every detail: no fewer than 90 steps are required to make each pair of glasses, many of which are done by hand — sanding wooden frames, fitting lenses, assembling hinges, putting the pieces together, refinishing the glasses, and final touches…

By choosing Made in France and focusing on people, Shelter embraces artisanal craftsmanship and prioritizes quality as well as controlled, thoughtful production.

Short production circuit in France: optimized transportation and low carbon footprint

Certifié!

All our woods are FSC certified and come from sustainably managed forests.

0 Énergie !

Wood is one of the materials requiring the least energy for its production.

Veggie!

Each frame is coated with 100% plant-based oil.

Upcycling!

Whenever possible, we recover high-quality wood veneer sheets from our partner Marotte that are unusable for panels (due to size). Instead of being burned, this wood is used to make our glasses!

Durabilité!

With a focus on product durability and responsible consumption, we develop high-quality products.

Less is more!

For each new pair of glasses, we place real importance on using as little raw material as possible.

Recyclabilité!

The bio-acetate used is 100% recyclable and 80% biodegradable.

Replantons!

We capture/contribute to carbon sequestration with EcoTree.

Recyclons!

We have implemented a recycling program that encourages customers to recycle their old frames instead of throwing them away.

Responsible in choosing our partners

Marotte, a specialist in precious wood veneer, was chosen for its expertise, quality standards, and wood traceability.

Mazzuchelli, a leader in premium acetate, was selected for developing its pioneering and more ecological M49 range. This new bio-acetate formulation increases the percentage of naturally sourced, renewable components, making the material more virtuous as it is 100% recyclable and biodegradable.

Dalloz, a French specialist in sunglass lenses, has made a dual societal commitment by preserving jobs in the heart of Jura and continuously innovating to reduce its ecological footprint with the launch of recyclable thermoplastic lenses.

Chacun de nos partenaire est soigneusement sélectionné pour son engagement dans le respect de la Nature

Respectful of you and of them.

You: our customers. You who, every day, continuously push us to be fairer and more genuine. Because your opinion matters above all, we strive to be as transparent as possible in our approach, while offering you products at a fair price, without unreasonable margins.
Them: our eyewear artisans and partners—suppliers or opticians. They shape the brand with us every day. By their side, we make every effort to respect each individual for their expertise and craftsmanship.
